VIENDOMOVIES PRESENTS IN APRIL FILM CYCLE DEDICATED TO EMMA SUAREZ

03-04-2025

ViendoMovies, the pay-TV movie channel owned by SOMOSTV (a company chaired by Luis Villanueva and part of SOMOS Group), which programs the best contemporary films produced in Spanish, 24 hours a day and without commercial breaks, presents during the month of April, every Sunday at 9:00 pm, a film cycle dedicated to Emma Suarez, a prolific Spanish actress who has won two Goya Awards (Best Leading Actress and Best Supporting Actress) and was recognized with the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (2020). In addition to these recognitions, Emma Suarez has received the Sant Jordi Award from the Generalitat of Catalonia (Best Actress), the Actors Union Award, and the Fotogramas de Plata, Platino, and Feroz Awards, among others. Emma Suarez has an extensive filmography (more than 50 productions) and participation in television series (16). These cycles are part of SOMOSTV's commercial-free movie channel strategy, which presents cycles featuring the best talent in Spanish cinema, in line with its mission to disseminate the output of an industry that has received international recognition and audience acceptance.

The cycle begins on April 6 with the film 70 Binlandens (Spain, 2018), directed by Koldo Serra and nominated for the Sitges Festival. The film is a thriller where Raquel (Emma Suarez), a woman with a complicated personal situation, needs to obtain 35,000 euros in 24 hours. Her last hope is a bank loan. The appearance of two robbers (Nathalie Poza and Hugo Silva) when she is about to close the transaction complicates her situation even more, but Raquel knows she has no choice but to leave with the money, at any cost. This production is followed on Sunday the 13th by the film Una Ventana al Mar (Spain, 2019) directed by Miguel Ángel Jimenez. This romantic drama tells the story of María, a fifty-five-year-old woman diagnosed with a serious illness. Despite this, she travels to Greece with her two best friends. There, on the island of Nisyros, she regains her will to live and unexpectedly falls in love with Stefanos (Akilas Karafisis). María will have to decide whether to return to her family or stay with him on a small island until the end. For this production, Emma Suarez was nominated for the Dias de Cine Award for Best Actress.

The cycle continues with the film Josefina (Spain, 2021), an interesting drama directed by Javier Marco. In this film, Juan (Roberto Álamo), a prison officer, silently observes Berta (Emma Suarez), the mother of Sergio (Miguel Bernardeau), one of the inmates, every Sunday. Juan manages to get close to her by pretending to be another father and inventing a daughter inside the prison: Josefina. The emptiness in which Juan and Berta live leads them to continue meeting beyond the reality that surrounds them. The film accumulated 11 nominations for different awards at international festivals, including the Goyas, Taipei Festival, San Sebastian, and other prestigious events. The cycle concludes with the film Las Furias (Spain, 2016), a drama directed by Miguel del Arco starring Bárbara Lennie, Emma Suarez, and Carmen Machi. In it, Marga announces to her children that she wants to sell the family summer house to embark on a long and mysterious journey. She invites them to come by as soon as possible to choose furniture, belongings, or memories they want to keep before the sale takes place. Héctor, the eldest brother, proposes taking advantage of the same weekend to celebrate his wedding with the woman he has been living with for more than fifteen years, and from whom everyone expected him to separate.

The Emma Suarez cycle joins ViendoMovies' programming with premieres such as La Maniobra de La Tortuga (Spain, 2022) directed by Juan Miguel del Castillo and starring Natalia de Molina, Ignacio Mateos, Mona Martínez, on Saturday the 12th, and the comedy Tres Dias para Reconquistarla (Venezuela Colombia, 2024), directed by Carlos Malavé, produced by SOMOS Films and Rodando Films, and starring Alvaro Benet, Carolina Piedrahita, and Gloria Montoya on Saturday the 26th.

ViendoMovies, in addition to promoting Spanish-language cinema and its artists, also celebrates the traditions and festivities of the Hispanic market in the United States and Puerto Rico, thus enhancing its cultural relevance.
