VIENDOMOVIES PROGRAMS CYCLE WITH FILM STAR ALFREDO CASTRO

07-08-2024

MIAMI, Fl., August 2024 - ViendoMovies, the channel owned by SOMOSTV (a company led by Luis Villanueva and part of SOMOS Group) that programs the best movies produced in Spanish, 24 hours a day and without commercial breaks, presents this August a cycle of films dedicated to the famous Chilean actor and theater director Alfredo Castro. Alfredo Castro, with an extensive filmography (around 40 films), not including his participation in numerous soap operas and television series, has received the Platino Award on several occasions (4 times as a male performer), at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana, the Guadalajara International Film Festival, Málaga Festival, and other reputable events in the Spanish film industry. This event recognizing outstanding talent in Spanish cinema complements the channel’s programming in the month of August, which includes productions from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Spain. ViendoMovies is characterized by scheduling high-quality contemporary cinema produced in Spanish from all Spanish-speaking countries, being distributed in the main cable, satellite, and telecommunications companies in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Every Sunday in August at 9 pm, ViendoMovies schedules a movie featuring this beloved actor. The cycle begins with the family survival drama film directed by Jorge Riquelme, “Algunas Bestias” (Sunday, August 4th), which won the first prize in the 35th edition of “Cine en progreso” at the Latin American Film Festival in Toulouse in 2019. It had its world premiere in competition at the 2019 San Sebastián International Film Festival, in the New Directors section, where it won the main prize of the show. Later, within the framework of the 41st International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana 2019, it obtained the Special Jury Prize and the Coral for the best director of the Festival. The second film in the cycle is “Inmersión” (Sunday, August 11th), directed by Nicolás Postiglione. The actor portrays a man who sails with his daughters on Lake Lanalhue (Province of Arauco), in a tense journey where the family will be forced to help some men who are stranded, initiating a journey where the father will have to confront these strangers whom he distrusts and fears. “Inmersión” received nominations for best film at festivals such as the Miami Film Festival, the Haifa International Film Festival, and other events.

The cycle continues with the movie “Los Perros” (Sunday, August 18th), directed by Marcela Said. This production is a moral reflection on an affluent class that, either by action or omission, was complicit and beneficiary of the dictatorship in Chile and to this day still maintains a comfortable silence about its guilt. In it, Mariana (Antonia Zegers) lives comfortably with her family, belonging to a high and wealthy Chilean social class. Her interest and then her desire for a former colonel now her riding teacher and older than her, stirs up dirt that would be preferred to keep under the rug. Mariana will discover the role that her environment played in the past Chilean dictatorship.

Finally, the cycle ends with the movie “Las Consecuencias” (Sunday, August 25th), a 2021 Spanish drama film directed by Claudia Pinto Emperador and starring Juana Acosta and Alfredo Castro. In this drama, Fabiola (Juana Acosta) travels to a small volcanic island and becomes a spy of her home. She has no evidence or certainties, but her intuition tells her that not everything is as it seems. She is torn between the fear of what she might find and the need to get answers. “Las Consecuencias” won 7 awards at international festivals (Málaga Festivals, Dias de Cine and Berlanga Awards, among others) and also received 6 nominations.

The Alfredo Castro Cycle reinforces the channel’s programming in the month of August, which includes the premiere of “La Vida Padre” (Spain, 2022) and the drama “La Balada de Los Cuervos” (Dominican Republic, 2022).
