15-05-2024

ViendoMovies, the Spanish-language movie channel that exclusively presents films originally in this language without commercial interruptions, is owned by SOMOSTV (a company led by Luis Villanueva and part of SOMOS Group). On Saturday, May 11th at 9:00 PM, ViendoMovies will premiere the award-winning Spanish film “Las Niñas” (2020), directed by Pilar Palomero. The movie has received 29 awards at major film festivals in the industry. ViendoMovies is known for featuring a selection of the best films originally produced in Spanish. “Las Niñas” serves as a prime example of the high-quality entertainment the channel offers. The channel allows its audience to enjoy excellent cinema without interruptions, and also frequently showcases actor-focused cycles, highlighting the best artistic talent in Spanish-language cinema.

The film is set in the city of Zaragoza in 1992, a time when Spain was celebrating the Barcelona Olympics and the Universal Exposition in Seville. The story revolves around young girls who attend a convent school. Their families are different from traditional ones (with married parents).  Celia lives alone with her mother, which makes her somewhat marginalized. Celia, an 11-year-old orphan, faces social pressure due to her status. Her best friends, Cristina and Brisa, help her navigate the challenges posed by societal prejudices against children from single-mother households. As Celia discovers the truth about her orphan status, her friendship with Brisa, a new student from Barcelona, leads to open dialogue about hidden realities. A trip to her ancestral village after her grandfather’s death transforms the mother-daughter relationship, strengthening their bond and empowering them both.

“Las Niñas” has received numerous accolades, including the Ariel Award for Best Ibero-American Film, 4 Goya Awards (including Best Film), 3 Málaga Film Festival Awards (including Best Film), the Platino Award for Best First Feature Film, Best Film at the Torino Festival, Best Director at the Brussels Festival, Best Film at the Fugaz Awards, 4 Gaudi Awards, and several nominations, all attesting to its outstanding acting and cinematic quality.
