ViendoMovies, the 24-hour movie channel originally produced in Spanish, without commercial breaks and produced by SOMOSTV (a company that is part of SOMOS Group and presided over by Luis Villanueva), premieres this weekend “La Chica del Alquiler,” a Venezuelan production between SOMOS FILMS and Ananás Producciones. The film is directed by Carlos Caridad-Montero and stars Agustín Segnini, Daniela Alvarado, Patricia Schwarzgruber, and Luis Alfredo Olavarrieta. The channel, which celebrates its 17th anniversary this September in the United States and Puerto Rico, airs exclusive contemporary Spanish-language films from all Spanish-speaking countries, all of which have been successful in their countries of origin. It is distributed by major cable, satellite, and telecommunications companies.
“La Chica del Alquiler” is a fun comedy that tells the story of Lorena and Sebastian. After Lorena, the woman he thought was the love of his life, leaves him at the altar, Sebastian has no better idea than to look for her at the beach house they rented for their honeymoon. There he meets Valeria, the rental girl, who is determined to cure his heartbreak, break his rigid schemes, and turn him into a new Sebastian until the runaway bride appears on the beach with Tomás, the wedding’s best man. The film is shot in attractive locations that enhance the cinematographic quality of the production. The narrative establishes a chain of entanglements, encounters, and disagreements on a path that portrays the tropical coast and the revelation of a new love. It should be noted that this SOMOS Films (part of SOMOS Group) co-production is integrated into the company’s catalog, which has produced 13 feature films in different countries since 2018, such as Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Peru among others. SOMOS Films has ventured into different themes, including comedy, historical drama, melodrama, thrillers, and fiction.
“La Chica del Alquiler” is part of the September celebrations. In addition to the channel’s anniversary, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th with films representative of the Latino culture and novelties such as “Hotel Coppelia” (Dominican Republic, directed by José María Cabral, starring Lumi Lizardo and Nashla Bogaert), “No Mataras” (Spain, starring Mario Casas and winner of the Goya Award and Fotograma de Plata), and “Ama” (Spain, winner of the Malaga Festival, nominated for the Goya Awards). The channel also celebrates Mexico’s Independence Day on the 16th of this month, one of the most important communities in the Hispanic market, by programming a selection of high-quality Mexican cinema with films such as “No quiero Dormir Sola,” “Erase una vez en Durango,”, “Hilda,” “Campeones México Sub 17,” “Juan y Vanessa,” “Siete Años de Matrimonio,” “El Último Trago,” and “Club Sándwich.”
