VIENDOMOVIES PROGRAMS GOYA AWARDS CYCLE

MIAMI, Fl., February 2023 – ViendoMovies, the Spanish-language movie channel owned by SOMOSTV (a company chaired by Luis Villanueva and part of the SOMOS Group), which programs the best exclusive movies, 24 hours a day and without commercial breaks, dresses up this Saturday, February 11, to present to its audience in the United States and Puerto Rico the Goya Awards Special, a day of celebration with films from nominees and winners of this important award.

The Goya Awards are Spain's premier industry award and are sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. ViendoMovies programs in this special event 13 films that have been recognized with this award: El Hombre de las Mil Caras, Truman, El Desconocido, Campeones, Mientras Dure la Guerra, La Odisea de los Giles, A Cambio de Nada, Ane, Handia, Carmen y Lola, El Reino, Palmeras en la Nieve and Tarde Para la Ira.

 

The Goya Awards Cycle is part of the channel's programming strategy, which has as one of its objectives to support the Spanish-language film industry and its events. ViendoMovies also presents in its cycles the productions starring the most outstanding artistic talent of cinema in Spanish, which has been recognized by Hollywood cinema and other film production centers. The channel also recognizes with special cycles the most relevant festivities in the United States and Spanish-speaking countries.

  

The cycle begins with the film El Hombre de las Mil Caras. It tells the story of Francisco Paesa, who is involved in an extortion case and has to flee the country. When he returns years later he's broke. In such circumstances, he receives a visit from Luis Roldán and his wife Nieves Fernández Puerto, who offer him a million dollars if he helps them save 1,500 million pesetas stolen from the public treasury. This film, based on true events, was nominated for 11 Goya awards and received 48 international awards.

Truman, Argentine drama starring Javier Cámara and Ricardo Darín, is not far behind. With 6 Goya Award nominations (including 5 awards) and 33 international nominations, it is about the life of Julián, who receives an unexpected visit from his friend Tomás who lives in Canada. During four intense days, the two men, accompanied by Julian's faithful dog, Truman, will share emotional and surprising moments brought about by Julian's complicated situation.

Among other films, Handia is a drama based on true events that tells the story of Martín, a soldier who returns to his town from the First Carlist War to discover that his younger brother, Joaquín, is much taller than normal. Martín, convinced that everyone will want to pay to see the greatest man on Earth, takes his brother on a long trip through Europe. The Spanish film was nominated 13 times at the Goyas (it received 11 awards), and 24 times at international awards.

  

Among the films with the most awards is Campeones, one of the great winners of the Awards with 11 nominations (winning the one for best film) and 31 international nominations. The film focuses on the story of Marco, a professional basketball coach who is sent to train a team made up of people with intellectual disabilities, which ends up becoming a life lesson.

Rounding off the outstanding films is Tarde para la Ira, with 4 awards and 11 Goya Award nominations in total, including Best Film, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay and Best New Director. It is a Spanish thriller about Curro, who goes to prison after participating in the robbery of a jewelry store. Eight years later, he leaves prison wanting to start a new life with his girlfriend Ana and their son, but he will find himself in an unexpected situation and an unknown man, José, who will take him along unknown paths, close to revenge.
