19-11-2021

MIAMI, Fl., November 2021 - ViendoMovies, the pay TV channel owned by SOMOSTV (company chaired by Luis Villanueva and part of SOMOS Group), presents this Sunday, November 21st, to its audience in the United States and Puerto Rico, the VIII Platino Awards gala, which will present films from 22 Ibero-American countries, including Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic, among others.

The Platino Awards, promoted by EGEDA (an entity for the management of intellectual property rights that represents and defends the interests of audiovisual producers) are awards created to recognize professionals in the Ibero-American film industry, which involves European, South American, North American and Caribbean nationalities. These awards are considered, unofficially, the Oscars of cinema whose original version is in Spanish or Portuguese. ViendoMovies, as part of its mission to support the Spanish-language film industry, broadcasts this event featuring productions and talent from the films programmed by the channel.

Some of the most prominent voices on the international music scene participated in this Ibero-American audiovisual party, providing the audience with a vibrant and exciting celebration, led by Juana Acosta and Luis Gerardo Méndez. During the celebration, a total of 22 Platinum Awards were awarded, and among the night's talents are Becky G, Carlos Baute, Juan Magán, and Pedro Capó.

Among the films with the most awards in this edition (in which almost 700 productions participated), is “El Olvido Que Seremos”, with 12 nominations, of which Javier Cámara won Best Ibero-American Fiction Film, Best Direction, Best Film Actor, Best Script and Best Art Direction. Directed by Fernando Trueba, it is the film adaptation of the novel by Héctor Abad Faciolince. The film and the book tell the story of the Colombian doctor Héctor Abad Gómez, father of the writer, exploring at the same time the political violence in Colombia in the 70s and 80s.

At the television awards, the series “Patria” had a great night. The story deals with the repercussions on Basque society of the violence of the Basque separatist group ‘ETA’. The production, inspired by the book by the writer Fernando Aramburu, won the award for Best Teleserie of the Year, Best Television Creation and Best Leading and Supporting Actress.
