MIAMI, Fl., February 2022 – ViendoMovies, the exclusive 24-hour Spanish movies channel, commercial-free, with the best contemporary films, owned by SOMOSTV (company chaired by Luis Villanueva and part of the SOMOS Group), dresses up this Saturday, February 12, to present to its audience in the United States and Puerto Rico the Goya Awards Special, which includes films from Spain nominated and awarded at this important ceremony.
The Goya Awards Series is part of the channel's programming strategy, one of whose objectives is to support the Spanish-language film industry and its events. In its cycles, ViendoMovies also presents productions starring the most outstanding artistic talent of Spanish-language cinema, which has been recognized by Hollywood cinema and other film production centers. The channel also recognizes with special cycles the most relevant festivities in the United States and Spanish-speaking countries.
The Goya Awards are the main industry awards in Spain and are sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In this special event, ViendoMovies programs 11 films that have been part of this celebration: Quién Te Cantará, La Novia, El Desconocido, La Llamada, El Hombre de las Mil Caras, Truman, Handia, El Reino, Mientras Dure La Guerra, Campeones, y Tarde Para la Ira.
Handia is a drama based on real events that tells the story of Martín, a soldier who returns from the First Carlist War to his town to discover that his younger brother, Joaquín, is much taller than normal. Martín, convinced that everyone will want to pay to see the greatest man on Earth, takes his brother on a long trip through Europe. The Spanish film was nominated 13 times at the Goyas (it received 11 awards), and 24 times at international awards.
El Hombre de las Mil Caras tells the story of Francisco Paesa, who is involved in an extortion case and has to flee the country. When he returns years later he is broke. In these circumstances, he receives a visit from Luis Roldán and his wife Nieves Fernández Puerto, who offer him a million dollars if he helps them save 1,500 million pesetas stolen from the public treasury. This film, based on real events, was nominated for 11 Goya awards and won 48 international awards.
Among the films with the most awards is Campeones, one of the big winners of the Awards with 11 nominations (winning the best film) and 31 international nominations. The film focuses on the story of Marco, a professional basketball coach who is sent to train a team made up of people with intellectual disabilities, which ends up becoming a life lesson.
Completing the outstanding films is Tarde Para la Ira, with 4 Goya Awards, including best film, best supporting actor, best original screenplay and best new direction. It is a Spanish thriller about Curro, who enters prison after participating in a jewelry store robbery. Eight years later he leaves prison wanting to start a new life with his girlfriend Ana and her son, but he will find himself in an unexpected situation and finds a stranger, José, who will take him down unknown paths, close to revenge.
