MIAMI, Fl., March, 2020 – ViendoMovies, the 24-hours a day SOMOSTV (company chaired by Luis Villanueva and part of SOMOS Group) channel featuring exclusive, commercial free movies, originally produced in Spanish, presents to its Latin audience a programing of excellent quality for the months of April, May and June. The film channel has selected a list of movies to go along with the channel’s strategy of exhibiting the best of contemporary cinema in Spanish while taking into consideration the increase of television watching in homes since the staying-at-home order started.
In April, the channel premieres Alma de Héroe (Colombia) based on the armed events that have occurred, and continue to occur, in the Colombian jungles. Miguel Tabares and Alexander Cohen were sent there, two young sub-lieutenants who, newly graduated from the Military School, face the painful adventure of war. Cohen's capture changes the course of Tabares's life who is ordered to go out and support his partner, a fact that will prevent him from going to the date in which he would ask his girlfriend Salma Cohen to marry him. ViendoMovies also presents the production of the sister company SOMOS Films EL Paraíso de la Serpiente. The plot circulates in a mysterious car accident that happens in a community that lives abandoned in the desert. The wounded do not remember who he is or where he comes from and begins performing healing miracles in the village. These two premieres are accompanied by Algunas Bestias of Chile and a special movie cycle honoring the great actor Leonardo Sbaraglia.
May begins with the celebration of Cinco de Mayo, where the channel pays homage to Mexico with 100% films of Mexican origin. Likewise, on Sunday 9th, ViendoMovies celebrates Mother's Day with allegorical films to this important figure in the Latino families. Finally, ViendoMovies brings the hit film Mientras dure la guerra, a Spanish drama with 41 nominations and 13 international awards. The film is based on the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s. The famous writer Miguel de Unamuno (Karra Elejalde) decides to publicly support the military uprising and is immediately dismissed by the Republican government as rector of the University of Salamanca. The bloody drift of conflict and the imprisonment of some of his companions by Franco (Santi Prego) causes Unamuno to begin to question his initial stance. When Franco moves his barracks to Salamanca and is appointed Head of State in the national area, Unamuno goes to his Palace, determined to make a request. Mexico presents La Cuarta Compañía. Zambrano is a juvenile delinquent who only longs to join the prison’s football team, Los Perros. Such an illusion ends up involving him with an organized crime circle under the auspices of authority, since the team is a squadron of inmates who control services and privileges in prison. The film was nominated for 20 awards and winner of 12. Other premieres include Cabarete (Dominican Republic), Recreo (Argentina).
Culminating this spring cycle, in June, ViendoMovies will present a special schedule on the 20th to commemorate Father's Day. In addition, the channel presents the Dominican film Colours, a young artist who never signs her paintings (because she does not feel they are really finished) follows her artistic career despite her father's poverty and opposition. The film earned 15 nominations at the La Silla Awards. For its part, Rapto of Peru follows the story of Sebastián Freyre who desperately seeks to find the whereabouts of his kidnapped grandfather. Together with Espinoza, his friend and teacher, they embark on a fight against the clock to find their grandfather before the four days that the kidnappers have given as their deadline. Secrets and revelations will come out along the way that his family would never have wanted him to know.
