MIAMI, Fl., January, 2020 – ViendoMovies, the
24-hours a day SOMOSTV (company chaired by Luis Villanueva and part of SOMOS
Group) channel featuring exclusive, commercial free movies, originally produced
in Spanish, starts 2021 with a set of successful and modern films that gather
great productions and casts of famous artists. Animal (Argentina), Mente Revolver
(Mexico), Un Traductor (Cuba), El Piedra (Colombia), and De Pez en Cuando (Dominican Republic)
are part of this set of movies, programed ideally in January when ratings and
television turn-ons increase significantly.
Animal is the helpless story of Antonio Decoud
(Guillermo Francella), a conservative family man who is forced by fate to face
an unexpected health situation that changes his life and priorities, pushing
him to forget his beliefs and to follow his animal instinct. With a touch of
black comedy, the film participated in the Sitges Festival: Official
Competition Section and in the Sur Awards: nominated for best photography,
music and makeup. The film is directed by Armando Bo, writer, director and Oscar
winner for Best Original Screenplay (along with Nicolás Giacobone) for Birdman (2014) and also a writer for Biutiful (2010).
As another
exclusive premiere, the channel presents Mente
Revolver, nominated for the Ariel Awards for best actor (Beltrán). These
are the crossing stories of several unique characters: Chicali has entered the
business of murdering for hire, but wishes to leave it knowing that whoever
enters it dies. Jenny is an American homeless woman who decides to cross the
border into Mexico to change her street condition. Mario, convicted of
murdering the presidential candidate, is released from prison after 20 years in
jail and returns to the city of Tijuana to rebuild his life. Jenny has fallen
in love with the young Chicali, who has been tasked to kill Mario.
Un Traductor,
nominated for the Forqué Awards for best Latin American film, at the Fénix
Awards in the category of best actor and opera prima, and at the Sundance and
Shanghai Festivals, tells the story of Malin who lives in the time of the
Chernobyl nuclear accident. Malin (a professor of Russian literature at the
University of Havana) is separated from his family to work as a translator
between Cuban doctors and children who are beginning to arrive from the USSR to
receive treatment for the radiation exposure. Malin must find a solution to
prevent fall into depression.
El Piedra
is a boxing drama starring Reynaldo “El Piedra” Salgado, a Cartagena boxer who
makes a living working as the “bait”: he fights without having any chance of
winning. One day Breyder appears, a street boy who claims to be his son and who
wants to be a boxer like him. Father and presumed son will learn to live
together. Reynaldo will find someone who will make him feel valuable again, and
Breyder will learn to admire the father who makes sacrifices and not the supposed
champion. The film participated at the official selection of the Ibero-American
Film Festival of Huelva, Spain, where it won the ‘Key to Freedom’ Award,
awarded by the inmates of the Huelva Penitentiary Center, and the ‘Most
Supportive Film’ Award. The movie also won the Audience Award at the Bogotá
International Film Festival and was selected at the 68th International Film
festival Mannheim-Heidelberg in the international competition for the Grand
Newcomer Award and the Talent Award, and in the International Panorama section
of the International Film Festival in Cairo. The film received three nominations for the
2019 Macondo Awards; with Manuel Álvarez Valdelamar as Best Leading Actor, and
Juan Carlos Pellegrino for Best Music and Best Song.
Finally, ViendoMovies
premieres De Pez en Cuando, a film
from the popular Dominican cinema that narrates the adventures of Ben, a
frustrated writer who is involved in an absurd plot of thugs, a pregnant woman,
a jealous husband, a teenage girl in love and a mysterious stewardess. All of
them will live a day more than interesting, of course, accompanied by a fish.
